Do your kids have checking/savings accounts?

My father-in-law gave my kids checks for their birthdays recently with their names on the payable line, so I was thinking of starting accounts for them. I was wondering how many of your kids have savings accounts?

Not yet. They have a 529, and we have their part of the savings separated in an Excel spreadsheet. But with all of our savings combined, we get a better interest rate.

And, most of the monetary gifts they recieve are in savings bonds.

No but I wish we would have insisted when they were younger.

My kids used to have savings accounts, but they rarely ever added to them and I couldn't afford to do so.  When my ex & I seperated & filed bankruptcy we were told we should close out those accounts.  I've not reestablished them yet.

When the kids get older, like middle school, we'll start their's. Our bank has a nice program for kids. Until then, they make more on interest in our combined account.
