I coupon, shop sales, plan menus and cook around whats on sale that week, I also stash up on items that wont go bad and can be added to many recipes, like gravy or condense soups.

I use a combination of what is on sale, coupons and buying generics and in bulk. For pantry staples/basics, I mainly shop at Aldi and I also buy ground beef there because they have the best price per pound for the 93/7 lean ground beef. Most things, I don't mind buying the generic version because we don't notice any difference in taste. But there are some things that I only buy the name brand when on sale and with a coupon.

This.  But I buy large quantities when I have coupons and it is on sale.  Like I bought 18 jars of salsa last week.  We obviously won't go through that much salsa this month or even next...but it keeps us from having to pay full price when we do need it.  Last January I bought 90 boxes of pasta because each one was not only free, but I made $.24 per box.  They have lasted us all year and we still have some left.  The expiration dates are still good, and I haven't had to buy pasta in a year.  That's totally worth it.  :)
