One of the easiest ways I know is never give up your change and put the change in a jar. If something costs $10.01 I will pay $11.00. If the clerk offers the penny I say no thank you.
A word of warning though remember to empty your purse occassionaly because all that change gets heavy.
Ya know I think you have to do what's best for your family as a whole. Sometimes having a strict budget is what you need to do to save. Each family is going to be different. Maybe you and DH should sit down and talk a little more. You can explain why it's so strict and what you are trying to do. Maybe he will understand.
Quoting goddess99:I don't know if I really have a question but when I showed my dh the budget I made for 2012 he commented that it was really tight and how would we be able to do fun stuff so I backed off on some of the strict "pay off debt" part of the budget and instead of paying more on each credit card we have, we pay more on 2 instead of 4 so we can still live a bit.
We are planning to take dd to Disney for her birthday in July of 2013. What is a good way we can start budgeting a savings for that?
We do this and once month we have a fun family outing like bowling or a trip to the movies with our change.

Great question. I am always worried about having an emergency when we are on traveling.
Quoting Reina13:We budget throughout the year for vacations, but after hearing about a friend who had an expensive 'vacation emergency', my question is, do we include money for 'vacation emergencies' into our general vacation fund or should that be something that is pulled from our general savings account. Also, what would be a reasonalbe amount to budget for 'vacation emergencies'.

Every year we take 2 "vacations" to see family one at Christmas and one in the spring to see my inlaws they always seem like short hectic trips. How can we save more money so that we can actually spend some time with our families?

I have not been on vacation in years, and am finally getting one this summer. We will be driving from Fl to Ny and staying with family along the way, so no hotel. We will mostly be visiting with family, how do I actually budget a vacation into my budget? Its pretty tight right now, but I know theres some wiggle room there.
