Currently i am only making 8.35/hr at Petco, and only getting 5-10 hours a week. I live in phoenix and i know theres quite a bit of hiring for MA's. So 9 an hour would be great w/guaranteed full time hours! versus this bull crap of a job im at now saying theyre gonna give me more hours and dont.

My school is pretty much paid for as an MA because of fafsa grants, then my adviser was saying once i become an MA for a year in the same job place - the company will normally have tuiton reimbursement for me to go back to school as an RN

Before you count on your new job paying your way to an RN make sure that is part of the deal. How much you make depends on where you live. I worked as a MA for 13 years in California for Kaiser Permanente and when I had to retire I was making just under $26/hr. Make sure that the school you are going to is accredited otherwise your classes will not count if you transfer to another school. Make sure that the school you choose also allows testing to become either certified or registered. I was registered so I got a little more on the hour. After you have been a MA for a few years you can challenge the LVN boards and if you pass then you work as an LVN which is a little more per hour. Unless you have financial issues I would apply to a RN program at your community college. Good luck! I loved my job and miss it very much!

I'm a certified medical assistant. I started out at $11 at the hosptial. I suggest you just go for your RN right off the bat instead of medical assisting. It took me about a year and a half to get hired. I kept hearing I needed experience to get a job. But I needed a job to get experience. Very frustrating.
