See what CafeMoms are saying about saving time this holiday season..
So I just posted something about the best place I like to go to near my house and posted pictures of Long Branch Beach... well we went there yesterday, it was beautiful. The day was great and the waters were extra warm due to the hot days we have been blessed with these past weeks.
My husband and I are enjoying the water (alone for once, because my aunt came and kept an eye on our daughter), the waves are about 3-4 feet tall and we are either going under or jumping over, it was so much fun... until I see a big gray and white "thing" swimming about 5 feet away from us. I, of course, start walking backwards out of the water and telling my husband that I just saw something there... he walks out with me and we both keep a close eye. THERE IT GOES AGAIN!! so at the same time, the lifesaver comes to us and stands next to us and starts telling the others (there was a group of about 7 more people in there) to get out, he said "come out of the water, there are stingrays in there". Everyone came out and we all stood there with the water up to our ankles looking in, trying to spot them... and we did!! many times, there were a big group of about (and this is my calculations) 14 or 16 of them. They looked amazing! and BIG!! I would say they were around 3 feet in diameter. So we didnt go in deep after that, but we enjoy the beach and our visitors (or are we the visitors? lol).
Here are some pictures. When I got back home I decided to check if its normal for them to be this high north... turns out its not a commun thing, but since the waters have been so warm, they just came and are feeding on clams and marine life up here. I also learned that the ones we saw are not the regular stingrays, they are called cownose stingrays and are bigger then the others. How amazing! :)
not sure you can see them here.. hard to see them in the pics.
