This weekend marks the annual Street Fair for our small town. I just came back from town and there were FOUR booths in the whole 4 blocks plus city park. FOUR. I can remember as a child both sides of the streets being PACKED with tables and booths, bake sales and crafts, fun things for kids, merchandise discounts at stores, the WORKS!
I'm disappointed that my kids weren't able to see/enjoy the annual tradition that's been in our town for as long as I can remember.
Does anyone else have memories of town events/festivals that have just died out due to declining interest over the years?
It's kinda of funny that you posted this because we'll be leaving to go to the fair in a little while
thats a shame. those can be so fun. we used to have oktoberfest on main street where i live and you could get all kinds of food or crafts and they dont do it anymore. used to have live music and everything. i always went and got me a polish sausage dog.
Other than that. The fairs, carnivals, etc. suck. We have the international festival which is our big city festival that I just get gods and leave now. It's not worth staying to do anything else. Gangs, attitudes, etc makes it not worth staying to enjoy :(.
No, it's sort of the oppossite here in a way. Bel Chere used to be very family friendly, and with a lot of kids stuff. Now that Bele Chere is the largest free festival in the southeast, it mostly means that people go there to get drunk and roam the streets. I used to volunteer in the kiddy area in the nineties, but now they hardly even have a kid section.
