Question for those who make their own laundry detergent

I was all set at the store to buy my ingredients to make my own detergent and remembered a repairman telling me to only use detergent that is made for HE appliances...he said it had something to do with the electrical panels and monitoring the levels of water, soap proportions, etc

Now he might have been feeding me a line but it got me thinking....does it matter if you use homemade detergent if you have a high efficiency washer?

Help!

HE washers don't do well with suds...in fact, it'll ruin a machine. FORTUNATELY the homemade detergent doesn't have a sudsing agent!!! It's safe to use.

The detergent we make has no sudsing agnet either. It is fine for HE washers.

Great thanks..hey..btw..where do you buy coconut oil? And do you use it for everything where a recipe calls for olive oil and/or vegetable oil? Guess I need some clarification....

I'm all about trying all this cool stuff Im learning from you and the other ladies on here!!

Oh and where do you buy essential oils? Would like to try that too?

Haha...I better stop or you're gonna get tired of all the questions!!! Haha

Thanks
Beth

Never used coconut oil, but I hear tropical traditions has an excellent oil.

With your washer, just be careful about which brand of soap you use. Surfactants, the chemicals which make soap foamy, could affect the outcome. I have never had a problem with excess foam, but that is the normal concern re: homemade laundry soap and he washers.

Tropical Traditions has great coconut oil...I get food grade, expeller pressed organic.  It can be expensive from them, though.  Our local food store also carries food grade coconut oil that I'll use.  I use it in baking, some cooking (pancakes, waffles) but IMO it's not the best for frying in.  For that, I use real butter.  I do use olive oil in recipes and for salad dressings.  I will not touch yellow seed oils like veggie, canola, safflower, etc.

I can get essential oils from Bolek's crafts website.  I supposed you can get them at most craft stores; I've never tried anywhere else because I don't use them very much.

Keep asking questions!  I never get tired of answering.  I'm happy to help!
