When do you start getting your house ready for winter?

What kind of things do you do to get ready for the cold weather?

We live in PA.   We have a woodburning stove that we use to help sublment our electric heat.  We have ordered 4 cords of wood.   2 cords are being delivered this weekend.  We also are spending some money this year to do repairs on the wood burning stove.  We need a new glass for the door.  It is broke and not sure how or why.  We need a new blower.  We have been babying the old blower for 2 yrs now.  Time to fix both and be done with it.

We don't do to much to the house.  We have good windows and doors.  We will clean the filter in the heating unit before we turn it on.

Not much to do here in PR! We have summer like weather all yr round so a light jacket, umbrella and close toe shoes is all we need in case weather turns rough... ;-)

We have already got all of our wooded ordered, will get the last of it today. Then need to cut and stack it. Also have to clean the chimney. That is about all we need to do

We work on it all year long.

We have a wood furnace that is our main source of heat.  We buy 10 pulp cord of wood and then cut & split & stack it ourselves.

We check roofing, weatherstripping, caulk, and insulation before it gets cold.

We overhaul/tune up the snowblower long before snow gets here.

Nothing really to do with the house, but we have gardens that we harvest, preserve the veggies/fruits, and then put fertilizer/mulch/cover on the gardens before snow gets here.

Bring in the garden hoses and patio furniture, check windows for weather seals that may need to be replaced, put away the bathing suit and towel rack and bring out the boot mats and glove/boot warmers. If we get lucky and Michigan has a warm winter again like last year, then I will just sit back and enjoy a very low heating bill!!

We live in an apartment so really not much we can do to get ready for summer other then check what we programed into the thermostat and make sure we'll still be comfterable at that temp. We may put plastic on the windows this year. And get out the heavy blankets.
