My guess is because Latter Day Saints (Mormons) tithe 10% of their income. Not everyone in Utah is LDS, but that is my guess why it is so high. We are LDS and that figure is spot on for our household.

I'm from MN too! I thought our state was more generous than that. What happened to MN nice? Lol.
