I love using my slow-cooker even though I've only used it twice so far. Once was for chicken noodle soup, and the other for pot roast. This week I'm making shredded buffalo chicken sandwiches and maybe chili. What are your favorite cheap recipes for the slow-cooker? I need more ideas!

I am an 18 year old, disposable diapering, formula feeding, vaccinating, pro-life, non-bashing, Christian, and first-time proud mommy to my darling son!

Hungarian Beef

2 - 3 lb. beef roast

1 large onion, sliced

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 c. ketchup

2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 Tbsp. brown sugar

2 tsp. salt

2 tsp. paprika

1/2 tsp. dry mustard

1 c. water

1/4 c. flour

Place meat in crock pot; cover with sliced onion.  Combine rest of ingredients but water and flour; stir in water.  Pour over meat.  Cover and cook on low for 9 to 10 hours.  If you would like to thicken the tasty sauce, then turn to high about 30 minutes before serving.  Dissolve flour in a small amount of cold water; stir into sauce mixture in crock pot.  Cook until slightly thickened.  Serve over noodles, potatoes, or rice.

Note:  You can also add potatoes about 4 - 5 hours before cooking time is done.

Ham hocks & cabbage are usually cheap!

Crockpot Ham Hocks & Cabbage Stew

2 to 3 lb. smoked ham hocks

8 c. water

2 Tbsp. butter

1 medium to large onion, chopped

1/2 lb. baby carrots (or sliced raw carrots)

3 to 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed

1/2 of a large head of cabbage, sliced thinly

garlic salt to taste

black pepper to taste

Cook the ham hocks in the water on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.  Remove ham hocks, let cool while doing the next step.

Melt the butter and saute the veggies until lightly golden and cabbage starts to wilt.  Add to the crockpot.

Remove meat from the bones and add back to the crockpot.  Cover and let cook for 1 to 2 hours on high or until veggies are tender.

Serve.

Crockpot Cream Cheese Ranch Chicken

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • paprika
  • 1 pkg. ranch dressing mix (I use my own homemade mix)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, cubed
  • 1/2 c. chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. dry ranch dressing mix

Wash and dry chicken breasts and place them evenly in bottom of crock pot.  Sprinkle with paprika and the package of dry ranch dressing mix.  Cut 2 Tbsp. butter into small pieces and distribute evenly over chicken breasts.  Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.

Melt 1 Tbsp. butter.  Add cream of chicken soup, cream cheese, garlic, and dry ranch dressing mix.  Stir over medium heat until smooth.  Pour over chicken, cover again and cook on low for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Note:  I have a Rival crock pot and cooking times were 3 hours, then 1 hour after adding sauce.
