I buy beef and pork in bulk.  We raise our own poultry for meat.  Yes, it is MUCH cheaper to buy meat that way.

I try to shop alone.  Kids and DH add between $10 to $20 to my shopping trips if they go along.

I have a garden that helps me out with groceries from August - October.  Otherwise, I buy seasonal veggies and/or frozen with the exceptions of ingredients for salad.

I cook from scratch.  Salad dressings, sauces, and seasonings are easy to make and are far cheaper than buying already made.  I even used to make bread and pasta (we don't eat grain foods anymore.)

I coupon and meal plan.. Sometimes I put off buying groceries for as long as possible because I know we can get creative with some stuff in the pantry.

How is that considered dairy free?

Quoting michiganmom116:

I mentioned that we're dairy-free....meaning we don't drink milk (I'll still use some cheese).  We went from consuming 12 gallons of milk to maybe one a month for baking purposes...with the price of milk, that saves close to $40 a month.
