Sugar Dollars

So I heard about making sugar dollars for kids and tried it.  It's AWESOME!

I just made some play money online and printed it off and laminated it. 10 pink and 10 blue.  Each kid gets 10 sugar dollars a week to spend on sugar.  Everything counts, even orange juice, hot chocolate, cookies, candy, nutella, etc.

DD5 totally gets it! She's already budgeting and saving up for special days!  It really works.

DD2.5 is still too young yet to really understand but soon enough.

That's cool! :) Great idea to get them started with budgeting!

I'm not a fan of using food as a reward.

I'm not either, ESPECIALLY sugary treats.  Maybe movie or game rentals....

I can see the appeal of this for some folks, but my concern would be making sugary junk food into an even bigger deal than it is already for kids. If you have to save and budget and earn it, they're going to spend even more time thinking about how great the junk food is... Kind of glorifies it.

I would think a system like this could be put into place for almost any kind of privilege. Not sure what that would be at my house...

Good points and I agree.

Maybe I'm confused about how that works? Like a $1 per item?

Me either. This definitely wouldn't be something that I would do with my kids
