When we visit the south. (which is never, so no) I do make them use proper names if they know them though, mr. x and mrs. y....but 99% of the time, people don't introduce themselves in ways that make it easy to address them. All my kids friends parents are "so and so's mom"

I tell him to use "mister" and "miss" most times..

Yes. No with us or close friends/family, but other adults, yes.

I've taught them to do so...sometimes they don't though

I don't "make" them, but I do encourage it.
