Neither currently we are living in our house that is up for short sale so we arent making mortgage payments bc of that but arent renting it either.

We are planning to move and rent from now on hopefully as early as fall. We dont ever want to buy a house again.

 Buying the bank owns until it is paid off. I hate when people say they own when if you want to get technical the bank still owns it till it's paid off UNLESS they already have it paid off:)

To me, that's just splitting hairs. My definition of "own" is that I am fully responsible for all maintenance, repairs, insurance, liability, proprrty taxes, etc.

Renting is a place to live without being 100% responsible & accountable for it.

If you want to express the difference between having a mortgage or not, I personally would say I own (mortgage) or I own it "outright" (no mortgage).
