Saw this on Pinterest & LOVED it! So, of course I had to share. :)
This is the shit good parenting is made of.
Yesterday my mom posted a picture on Facebook of my 5 year old brother Sam wearing a pair of shoes he picked out for his first day of preschool.

She explained to him in the store that they were really made for girls. Sam then told her that he didn’t care and that “ninjas can wear pink shoes too.”
Sam went to preschool and got several compliments on his new shoes. Not one kid said anything negative toward him about it. However, my mom received about 20 comments on the photo from various family members saying how “wrong” it is and how “things like this will affect him socially”, and, put most eloquently by my great aunt, “That shit will turn him gay.”
My mom then deleted the photo and told Same that he can wear whatever he wants to preschool, that’s his decision. If he wants to wear pink shoes, he can wear pink shoes.
Sam then explained to her that he didn’t like them because they were pink, he liked them because they were “made out of zebras” and zebras are his favorite animal. :)
Adorable. This is the shit good parenting is made out of. Fuck the haters, that kid looks damn cute in those pink shoes.
I would have left the picture up and told everyone to fuck off.
And zebras are made of awesome. :) This is perfect. Just look at him. He’s so adorable and he looks absolutely thrilled.

I agree kids will be kids and people put too much into what is right and wrong when it comes to the little things. My son will be five in a couple weeks and he has a doll that he plays with, everyone looks at me like I'm nuts because "dolls are for girls" but i say fuck it, boys can learn to care for babies too they got to start somewhere.
I totally agree!!
We don't believe in girl toys or boy toys (or colors, movies, books, etc.) Some of the girls in my kindergartener's class are a little mean & call him gay because he likes pink and the movie Tangled. Which makes me sad. Because in kindergarten, obviously they are probably learning that from their parents. There is SO much ignorance in this world. :/

and it's people like them that bread haters and raise their kids to be against people who are gay, bisexual, lesbian or transgender. Which only causes more hate and heart ache in the world. I love the shoes (I don't like zebra print on my body) but he wears it well, and it's cute. Kids don't know the difference between a gay person and a strait person. They just know love and hate. So let them love damnt!
Mother to Alexander. Edwyn is due in March/April <3
