O.K...so heres what happened...my MIL gave my youngest son an easter basket that had gardening tools in it and my husband made the comment that we should just go out and buy him some barbies. I was like wait why cant he like to garden...my husband doesnt believe boys should garden!!! I said that a lot of men garden...my grandpa has a garden his step dad has a garden and my MIL's neighbors both the husband and wife garden....I see NOTHING wrong with lil boys gardening...is it just me or is he crazy...he also said that as far as he will go is cooking because women garden and are suposed to cook...i think someone is stuck back in the stupid ages...you know where women do all the cooking and cleaning and all that great stuff but idk im a bit irritated by his comments!!1

My DF doesn't care about the gender stuff. We share all household responsibilites, including cooking. His dad gardens but also hunts and fishes. DD likes to play with cars (matchbox kind) and dinosaurs. I know how to work on cars, use power tools, build furniture, shoot and disassemble/assemble and clean a rifle/shotgun. Gender 'appropriate' things aren't really an issue in our household. GL!

My DS will know how to cook, clean, do laundry etc. I want him to be independent and not think he has to have a woman to take care of him. And yeah, most farmers are men. I'd tell DH to get a grip and get with the times.

Everyone should know basic gardening skills. What if it was to survive? My son lives to garden & he's 5.

My friends husband wouldn't let her buy one of those toy kitchens for their son because he said it was too girly. I'm thinking... Hell to the no. There is nothing wrong with a boy gardening or cooking or cleaning for that matter. Welcome to he 2000s jerks. Some men.

Gardening can lead to landscaping and construction.. It's not girly at all.

Better to want to Garden and be outdoors then stuck in front of the tv all day playing video games.  Atleast that is what I think.  Or even indoors...getting in to nature.

Back in the day men would garden. I remember growing up and listening to stories from my grandpa and grandma. My grandma did everything in the home whilr my grandpa did everything outside of the home. They shared the grocery shopping. My husband loves to garden, me not so much because i cant stand all yhe bugs. But my boys love it. My daughter doesnt. Its funny watching my kids do it, i believe no is no line between which gender can do what. I have let my boys even play with barbies. If my daughter can play with green lantern and captain ametica action figures, why cant the boys play with barbies and play dress up? No i do not let the boys wear girls clothes though and my daughter does not wear boy clothes. What sex you are makes no difference as to how you can live. thats like saying a man cant be a hairdresser when we all know that men are better at it. And like saying women cant paint a fence. Everyone should be alloeed to do what they want. Ask your son what he wants to do. Only he can make up his own mind.
