Is my son's backpack inappropriate?

Posted by   + Show Post

My son's first day of second grade is tomorrow. He picked out a star wars back pack at Toys R Us about a month ago. I didn't really look at it right then (I have a 22 month old as an excuse). About a week ago, I realized that the storm trooper on the backpack is holding a huge gun! I keep going back and forth between thinking that no one will notice or care, and thinking that the principal is going to call me in. I'm worried that my family will be in trouble over this - and as a result famous at the school for the wrong reason! I've tried to not worry about it - but here I am at 7pm thinking about a mad dash to the store.

Here's a link that shows the backpack:  http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11654256

What do you think?

Thanks for the opinions!

Yes. I would be out buying a new one.

I think character backpacks are trashy though. Just not something I want my kid toting around on their back.

Yes! But only because of all the recent school shootings.

I don't think it would be a problem but I'd call the school and ask.

I wouldn't use it.  It sounds like it's not well made anyway so maybe you could still return it?

in my opinion, it's just a movie character, so maybe they will go with that and let it go? but it all depends on your school and their rules. i'd let him take it but be prepared to have to get another one if they say anything.

Oh lawd. I've heard it all.
I am completely against toy guns for kids...with the exception of a nerf gun my son got for Christmas that he is only aloud to shoot targets with...never people.
I am not anti gun. In fact my family are huge supporters of the second amendment. I want my kids to understand that guns aren't toys and that real guns are dangerous if not treated with respect.

Anyway, all that being said... I see no problem with the backpack.
