Creative Play Challenge Day 2: “Sort” Out Your Holiday!

Posted by   + Show Post

Starting around 18 months, toddlers begin to notice differences and commonalities between objects-which means it's time to sort and group!Today, take some of your holiday decorations, food items, or gifts, and work together to "sort" them by color, size, shape, texture, or type. For older kids, increase the complexity of the items you sort or the categories you sort them in.

(Tip: Sorting Cubes and Block Assortments are both great toys to help build these sorting skills.)

We did ornaments. She is sick, so she got to do it after her nebulizer.

We sorted white and blue bulbs.

We did this when we were putting up the tree, the branches are color coded to determine the sizes top to bottom. DS did a fantastic job sorting then into the proper groups and then helping us find which ones go where on the tree :)

My daughter is 20 months old. This was real fun. We sorted by color and I actually got her to say the colors blue and red!

My 5 year old son and I played with his hot wheel cars and he wanted to seperate them by size. We also did color, shape and kind. We made a race track and played with it :)

We are sorting toys into bins.  So many little things get mixed together or are strewn from one end of the house to the other.  It is surprising how well really little ones can sort!
