Showering with your son?

Posted by   + Show Post
My son is 2 in December and I've been wondering if him showering with me is inappropriate. My DH works nights two weeks out of the month so if I go to the gym in the evening I throw my son with me in the shower to conserve water and to get him in bed faster. He doesn't watch me or anything just plays with his toys and the water. He hasn't pointed at my area or anything like that. I guess my question is when is ok, or even if it is ok, for my son to shower with me.
Please no rude comments. I'm a new mother and never had a boy in the family. Thanks ladies.

I don't have a son but if I did, I probably would let him shower with me for a while longer. I think my dd was 3 or 4 before I stopped.

I have a friend at work whose son is 7 & him & her shower together everyday. I personally think it's weird. But I don't even like to shower with my 2 dds. As long as you 2 are comfortable with it, go ahead.

If he asks you, tell him what it is. You have a vagina. He has a penis. The end.

I've never, on the other hand, seen any reason to bathe with children. Pragmatically, I mean.

My DS is 2 and I bring him in the shower with me. In fact, he rarely takes a bath. He hates showers and baths, so I find it easier to just pull him in, clean him up first then set him outside the shower and wrap him in his towel. He usually sits ans waits for me to fibish then..

My kids know what I allow in our house doesn't mean they should go around other peoples houses naked. My kids have been to play dates and they have never stripped down at anyone's house. Why should my children be modest? Don't kids especially girls have enough body image problems? They should be proud of their bodies. I am sure when changes start to happen they will naturally be more modest but they never have to be ashamed of their bodies.

At some point you do have to begin enforcing modesty in your children.  Allowing them to run around naked at home means they will have no sense of propriety when they are in the homes of others.  I guarantee that other families are going to reject this and it's common sense that you understand this or your kids will have no friends because their parents won't tolerate your kids wanting to run around nude nor will they allow their children to visit your house.  You may hink you're being a free spirt but you are not helping.  It's not all about what you want but about what society demands and about instilling some kind of sense of modesty, which does, after all, have a point.  I seriously doubt you will be ok withyour 16 year old daughter running naked through the house with her boyfriend.

Now, it's different matter when bathing a young child ut opposite sex parents will have to end the practice while the child is still young.  Not being nakedwhenever you feel like it does not mean you're ashamed of your body.  I just mens you belong to a culture which places strictures on when and where nudity is proper.  There is a difference.

My DS is 3 y/o.  I wouldn't have any issue showering wih my son.  However, he usually showers with my DH because I find it easier if I catch him on the way out, dry him off, and get him dressed (my DH lets DS mess around too much and it takes forever to get them out of the bathroom).

I showered with my son until he was around two. when he started getting curious, pointing, and asking questions, is when we quit. i think it all depends on you and your child.

my son is 3 1/2 and still showers with me probably once or twice a week. i dont see the issue???? and wth would CPS ever get involved like some of these moms are saying??

Wow my son was between 4-5 when I stopped showering with him. At 8 he misses it and asks me all the time. I stopped only because I was then showering with my daughter and there just wasn't enough room. My kids are naked kids and would prefer to run around with out clothes on. I have no problem with that at all. They could care less and aren't shy about themselves. No bashing but this is what worked for us.

my 3 year old runs around home naked ALL the time!!! but has not once tried to get naked at day care. i see no issues with nudity and the human body. my child understands the boundaries and limits (i.e. private parts are orivate so wear clothes in public and around conpany...) of when to wear clothes and when its okay not to. just because we give him that freedom doesnt mean he will be a nudist lol
