He will out grow it. My dd who is now 4 was shy. She use to cry is a stranger looked at her. Now she will say hi to someone standing in a line at the store. She still has her moments. Like yesterday we went to church for the first time in a long time. She wouldn't speak for a little while. After about 20 mins she started talking their ear off.

Hugs...I would say just give him time and he will come out of it some...I remember going through a very shy period.

Shyness, modesty etc..are not learned traits. So don't worry too much about it. It should become more mild as the months and years go, but if not, if you have a shy, modest child, encourage them to open up, but try not to force or criticize. I was a very shy little girl, and grew up to protect my chastity, and to this day am very modest, though I was not raised that way. It can be modified and can become a wonderful and rare trait nowadays.

It's better than the alternative. When my first was little he would hug just about anybody. Didn't matter if he didn't know them or not.

My second is very shy till he warms up to you.
