I have an out of home specialty cake business and was wondering what you normally pay for your child's birthday cake.

It really depends on the type of cake and experience of the cake decorator. I've seen some home specialty cakes go for 50-100. My supervisor wanted me to make a fish cake for her husband's birthday once. She gave me all of the actual cake supplies. So I wasn't going to charge her for making and decorating it. When I delivered it she gave me 30.00.

A half sheet or 24 cupcakes I think is about $20.

I wouldn't pay  more than $30 for someone else to make one.  I know they are probably worth more but that's why I make my own.
