I smushed a spider today, and my son asked me if it hurt on the spider! What do you think? Does it hurt on the fly we swat or the spider we squish?

But sometimes you dont get the fly on the first try, and they lay buzzing around!

Quoting mishamama:

No. Is too quick to be painful.

No, it's just a bug.

Quoting jenna30:

Doesn´t it make you feel bad killing it?

Quoting Maks1mommy:

Yeah, but it can still feel it.

Quoting jenna30:

 Dont you ever kill bugs?

Quoting Maks1mommy:

Have you ever ripped the leg off a bug? Or a wing, it panics, so I would assume that it feels pain.

But if they feel pain... How do you kill them? Do you also kill spiders and "bigger" bugs?

Quoting Maks1mommy:

No, it's just a bug.

I've really never thought about it but from what I understand they don't have pain receptors.

But how can they survive if they dont feel anything? I mean, you must know when to move out of dangerous places, and pain helps you with that?

1 mom liked this

I watched a spider drop onto a wood stove once, it was dancing like crazy so yes I do think they must feel pain. I prefer to kill them out of fear so their deaths are normally quick, well that and a bit overkill.

Yes, and I will only care about their pain if it's cute and not creepy

Most of the time it's to fast to be painful.

 Hopefully...
