Amending tax returns

Have you ever had to do it? What was the process like?

Yes, basically one year we would have had to pay out when we filed, which we were fine with.  Then we received our 1098-E's (student loan tax forms) which we had forgotten about.  Basically we had paid thousands out towards our loans that year which meant we didn't have to pay out and were in fact able to get something back.

Since we filed through Turbo Tax we had to file an amended tax return... I found an online resource showing how the process works. http://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/IRS-Tax-Return/Amending-Your-Income-Tax-Return/INF12058.html.  The process was fairly easy and worked fine with us.

Hmm...and my help stops here...lol. My aunt is an accountant and filed the amendment for us. My husband initially filed them himself and messed up combat pay during deployments. It was well worth the file, in the long run :)
