It's Coffee Break time! Hot Topic: Who Is Responsible for the Bill?

Welcome to Mom to Mom's Coffee Break Chat!

Durand Ford Jr, was billed $780 for ambulance services that were
too late in responding to a call for his father on New Years.
It was 30 minutes before an ambulance responded, only later to be discovered that the district was low staffed that night because over 50 firefighters called out sick for New Years Eve.

1. Do you think the district should have billed the family for ambulance services when the response time was 30 minutes and the caller died while waiting?
2. Do you think the family should have to pay the bill?
3. Was the district negligent in even allowing 50 firefighters to be off that night?

Why do you feel 30 minutes is a show response time.  I too called for help and the call took longer then 30 minutes and my husband did not hold on;  however they did all they could when they got there.  My community uses volunteers that give freely of their time leaving their families and jobs to help those in need.   They get the call then drive to the ambulance and then proceed to the injured and sick people.  I think 30 minutes is a very good responce time.   I did get a bill and paid it besides making a donation.

Why do people feel every thing is someones fault?  Mayber you should have called quicker or drove the patiient to the hospital or  done CPR untill help arrived.  Sometimes things happen beyond our control and we must just accept it.  Be thankful someone responded at all and did everything they could.

FIndout why they were so late in arriving.  It may have been negligence or unavoidable.

I'll have a dirty chai tea with a few shots of espresso in it. Thanks. I appreciate it.

I feel that the district shouldn't charge the family for that service. Period.
