Are you an organ donor?

I was reading about the woman who was pronounced dead at the hospital from a drug overdose. She as an organ donor an as her organs were about to be harvested, she opened her eyes! She was alive.

I am an organ donor, but I have had discussions with other people who are not. Some of them have told me that they believe medical professionals would be more willing to allow a patient to die if they know they are an organ donor than to do all that they can to save them. They have also said that they fear circumstances like this, where they would be mistaken for being dead.

What do you think? Are you an organ donor? Do you have any of these fears?

I read about that too. She did commit suicide 16 months after that happened. I'm a organ donor and I have no fears. I'm going to be cremated too.

I am not, however if I died and my dd,dh, or brother, parents needed an organ then that would be fine.

Hmmm I'm an organ donor. I've never heard about that though. That wasn't a fear of mine until I read this....  :(

I am an organ donor, and there is a red heart on my NY license to indicate I signed the correct paperwork. I am also a medical professional, nursing instructor and ICU nurse. In over 30 yrs of patient care, we never allowed our end of life care to be influenced by organ donor status. It did, however, change our handling of the patient's body after they died. We quickly acted to preserve what organs the pt. had directed be donated to increase the chance of transplant success. The case cited is so rare and unusual, I wouldn't give it a second worry. Please, donate.

I'm an organ donor.  I certainly hope they make sure I am dead.

If I'm at the point where I'm close enough to dead they are thinking about my organs, well I'm not worried they won't try to save me...probably past the point of being able to anyway.
