Coffee Break Quiz: If your kid broke a special vase, how would you react?
Q4: One of your kids has been playing with a ball inside the house and just broke a beautiful vase your grandmother has given you. What is your first reaction?
A. You hug him and ask him if he is hurt.
B. You tell him not to worry but to try to be more careful the next time.
C. You feel a little sorry about what happened since it was a nice gift from your grandmother, but the anger disappears soon.
D. You ask your child to continue playing outside.
E. You run to get the broom to clean up the bits of glass so no one gets hurt.
F. You laugh out loud so he doesn’t start crying and say "I’m glad! It was about time to replace such an old vase!"

G take the ball and punish him for playing in the house and clean up the mess.

None of the above. I'd be giving him shit for playing with a ball inside the house when he knows balls in the house are strictly prohibited. I'd then tell him he had to put a certain percentage of his allowance away each week until he had enough money to replace the broken vase.

I would be sad and upset. Depending on his age, either be mad at myself for allowing him to play with a ball inside which is against the rules in our house, or if he's old enough then he would get punished and have to clean up the pieces, and purchase a new vase with his allowance.
