ANYONE HAVE A "FRONT ROOM"?

I have a small home with an open-style living room and kitchen. I live in a northern state. My family in the south all have living rooms; so do my Eastern relatives and also the ones in the west. My DH and all his family refers to  our living room (and theirs) as the "front room", even though ours is not in the front! I have never heard this expression anywhere else except in this state. Does anyone else use this expression? I hate it!

I've heard that, but no one around here calls it that.

I've heard of it, but people around here (Southern Indiana/Northern Kentucky) don't use it.

I knew someone that called a living room a front room. I think they were from Michigan. It used to drive me nuts, but I don't know why.

I live in SoCal and have a "front room". It is in the front of the house though. If it were in the back of the house, it would just be the formal living room.

Growing up, our house had two living room areas. One was used as a typical living room (tv, couches, etc) and the other had the computer, book shelf, etc...We called that one, the "front room". I have no idea why. I live in PA.
