We use different items like the video and add or subtract the amount and have them count how many there are.

We count toys as we play or pick up, we count things as we take walks, etc.

My son likes to play Candyland and Shoots and Ladders. Those have a lot of counting. He is in first grade now and they are doing actual math though. I don't remember first grade math being that complex when I was a kid.

Our oldest daughter loves math, and picked it up on her own when she was about 4 years old. Since then, she has loved it, and always gets straight A's. She helps her younger sisters with their homework. Math these days is hard for us parents, lol. I'm dreading the day that our son starts learning math. He's in Kindergarten, but they aren't learning much math yet.

We've also done flash cards, abacus', and I have my old Speak n Math too. Oh, and my mom's old counting bears that she used for her preschool class when she was teaching.
