Mom to Mom Mom to Mom

Relocating from AR to Atlanta, GA! Need advice!

Hello mommies!!!! My husband is being relocated from here in Fort Smith, AR to Atlanta, GA and I'm so excited, nervous, anxious and every other emotion possible for this process! What makes me really nervous is the crime rate there whereas here is almost non existent. Lol. Can any of you give this mommy of a 1 yr old any tips or advice for this transition? Safest, cheaper, family friendly places to rent an apartment or spend a day? We are looking at Duluth and Marietta? Any others? Thank you!

Quoting Mylittlelovely:

How is the traffic from Stockbridge to forest park?

Quoting mcginnisc:

Live close to his employment.Traffic ATP is horrible on a good day. Crime is not going to be too bad in Marietta.

I live about 15 minutes south of Atlanta in Stockbridge.

It is about 4 exits going north on the interstate..it might be heavy, but it is comparing a 20 minute drive to a 90 minute drive. LOL

Quoting Mylittlelovely:

What about McDonough and Stockbridge?

Quoting Mylittlelovely:

My husband has informed me his work will be in Forest Park area. Any locations close to that you would recommend?

Quoting mcginnisc:

I live in Henry County and crime is not bad here. It is actually better than Marietta according to Neighborhood Scout. The bad part about Atlanta is that is stretches from about Kennesaw to Macon these days. Honestly, we live south as while traffic is awful, it is not as bad as the Northside of the city.Let me know if you have any questions. I have lived in the burbs of Atlanta for 34 of my 38 years.

Forest Park is in Clayton County.. DO NOT move there!!! Crime is horrible in Clayton County.. Henry, Spalding, or Fayette are nice and they are close by...you could also go to Peachtree City, which is right outside Fayette County. Forest Park is just north of us actually.

Forest Park is about 15-20 minutes south of Atlanta ( right above where I live), but Marietta and Duluth would be at least 45-60 minutes north of FP with traffic. Coming south to FP from Marietta would be horrible in the morning as that is Cobb County. Honestly, I would look around Henry or Fayette if I were you. You don't want to live on the Northside and work on the Southside of the city..( Dh agrees..I just asked him his opinion.. he made face when I said Marietta to FP. LOL)

It's about the same as Stockbridge... I'm off exit 221 going south on I-75 ( one of 5 Stockbridge exits) and we are exactly 7 exits from the State Farmer's Market exit in Forest Park ( it is one of 2 FP exits). It takes about 10 minutes if traffic is light on the interstate..going surface roads it can take longer due to traffic and lights.

We are on the Stockbridge McDonough line by the way...

Quoting Mylittlelovely:

My next question is who is a pediatrician you would recommend?

I use McDonough Children's Specialists- Dr. Soriano and Dr. Astacio..they are both Spanish speaking peds so they have thick accents ( Soriano more than Astacio)...that said, we LOVE them! We originally went there on a referral from someone I know that had adopted from China. We needed someone that had experience with Internationally adopted children as we were adopting from China. Dr. Astacio worked with Emory Healthcare ( one of the leading facilities in the US) for many years with IA kids so we chose them for that reason. In the 6.5 years that our daughter has been home from China, they have been wonderful in easing any concerns I might have. They take the time to explain things to me and I just really like them ( as do the girls).

My BIL and SIL use: Dr. Sankaran at McDonough Pediatrics...they love him. My niece is 11 so they've been going there forever.

There are a bunch of peds in this area, but those are the 2 that I am familiar with...

ETA: Let me know when you get here and where you move to..I can try to meet up with you one day and show you around the area a bit if you'd like..

Thank you so much! I would really like that! How are the neighborhoods and crime rate in Stovkbridge and McDonough? I'm a stay at home mom so I'd like to move into an area that's family oriented and I can meet people around the apartments. I'm also very interested in mom groups that meet up during the week. I really want my daughter to be a social girl and not become shy due to isolation... Make sense? Haha.

Not too bad... Keep in mind, they are both burbs of Atlanta so crime happens, but it is tolerable. We've lived in this area for 12 years and we've never had an issue.

I love it here as I dig being so close to so many things to do...I love going to Stone Mountain Park, Fernbank Museum, Callaway Gardens, White Water, and of course being so close to our Church and school is a huge plus.

I don't really know of any mom groups..I'm a SAHM, but both of my girls are in school so I just run my errands, go to the gym, etc while they are at school..after that, it's time for Karate and Church depending on the day. I'm sure there are some Mommy and Me things around here, but I've never utilized them.

Keep me posted and let me know if I can help you more!

I went from the North East  to Mid Atlantic to Atlanta, also a relo for my DH at the time.

If I had gone directly from North East to Atlanta, there would have been MAJOR issues.

We lived in Powder Springs (NE of Atlanta) and have recently relocated to Kennesaw, (still NE of Atlanta, but south of Powder Springs)  but have always lived in Cobb County.

What does your DH do (work for) that he is being re-loed?

He's relocating for USA Truck. He works in the operations center. Did you have any problems finding a baby sitter or any tips for me with that?
