Washing new baby clothes...

So I just got probably 25-30 new clothing pieces for my son who is due in May. They are all second hand so of course I want to wash them twice onces today and once probably in April with dreft. I know for the 2nd wash I will need to use dreft but I am wondering if its ok to use regular downy for the first washing?

With my first I washed all of her clothes and mine with dreft. I did mine too because of her skin rubbing against my clothing when I held her. But with my second, she is 2 months old I haven't used it once I just use tropical Hawaiian scent Gain that I always use and the great value Sheer spring fabric softener sheets. But to be fair my first is a redhead with very porcelain ivory sensitive skin and my second is brunette with darker skin. She popped out darker than me and I was like, that is so unfair she's never even been exposed to sunlight and has a better tan than me. Anyways, yea I think it will be fine to use regular for the first wash and dreft for when it's actually going to touch her skin I did the same thing as you with my first and she was fine.

That should be fine.

I would just use my regular detergent for both. I use free and clear.

I've never used special detergent for baby clothes.

I always just used tide free & downy free on EVERYTHING because I dont do well with fragrances myself and some even trigger my migraines and never had a problem and never used dreft.
