Child waking with eye(ball) pain in middle of night

This is the 2nd time in about 6 months that my 8yo dd has woken up suddenly in the middle of the night screaming in pain that her eye, just the left eye, hurts. She begs for help and screams like I've never heard. It is very scary. She is very sensitive to light, which could just be because it is the middle of the night. It has not appeared red or anything unusual either time. It is almost like a night terror. I wonder if she may have poked herself in the eye, since when that happens it is hard and painful to open your eye for a few minutes. Eventually with a lot of comfort does fall back asleep and both times has been perfectly fine in the morning!?

I am just so curious if anyone else has ever experienced this.

I am planning to take her to the eye dr asap. Cant find anything definitive online other than possibly just dry eye from the eyelid being a little open during the night.

Does she complain about headaches? She could be having an optic migraine

It has happened with our children.  Often it has been been because an eyelash, or something else has gotten caught under an eyelid, or something similar.

Have some blood tests run just in case. Maybe I'm paranoid but after watching that show " monsters inside me" , things like that scare me

She's having a migraine. They are rare in children but they do happen. The light sensitivity is your clue. Is she also nauseated?

Sounds like a migraine.

Does she have really light colored eyes?
