I have an Associates for Medical Assisting and have yet to find a job in that field. I had been working on a Bachelors in Health Services Administration but the curriculum has changed and now instead of needing 17 more classes, now I need 22. I'm kind of pissed about this. My school counselor (I think that is what the person is called that helps with degree plans) suggested that I go for a Bachelors in Case Management which only needs 15 more classes...except that she forgot to mention that you can't seem to get a job in that field unless you are also an RN, which I am not. Do any of you ladies have an Associates in Medical Assisting that you were able to use toward another degree? If you did, which field of study? Thank you.

I have not heard of the Assc. degree in Medical Assisting, but one of the big fields now is the coding thing, check into that.

Don't know about where you are, but here there is a waiting list to get into nursing school...lack of instructors.

There is a two-year waiting list here, too. It also requires classes from 8-5, and since I have to work, that is not feasible if I want to see my husband or our child while they're awake.

That's rough! Have you checked into on-line programs?

I honestly don't know. I'm a CNA and in going back to school in the next couple years for my RN. I have a 3 year old and I work full time but I'm gong to do it anyway.

I hope it goes well for you! I have all of the pre-reqs except the chemistry finished, but after talking to the counselor about the school schedule, I just don't think it would be right for my family. My friend just finished her pre-reqs, and she's starting in the fall. She's going to work part-time while she does it. My husband sometimes stays out of town for work and since my mom died and the one sister I talk to lives across the country, I don't have somebody that he can stay with while I go to school and work.

Not yet. I keep seeing commercials for one though, so I might.

It's'd going to be hard. I'm going to have to work with my employer to try and figure out a schedule (I work all evenings). There are some days I'll go from school to work and I won't really be at home at all. But I just need to do it and get it over with. :) I think the longer the wait, the harder it will be.
