Some are terrible (ex: evenflo)
Some don't follow WHO (world health organization) guidlines (ex: medela)
Others like hygeia and ameda tend to be recommended based on the quality of the suction, customer service, longevity, closed systems, ease of use.

How often do you plan on pumping?

It's important to research and then find one that works for you. The lactation consultant recommended I use a hospital grade pump for the first few months because I was going to pump.  I only used it for the time I was in the hospital and just used the at home pump - medela.  It worked great for me.

I had a manual and an electric. Both Avent (Philips). The difference was essential. With the electric I didn't have to pump till I couldn't feel my arm anymore. However I had very little breast milk and when I gave a sample for analysis I realized my baby was starving so we went on with formula.
