Those are some of the most wonderful words a woman can say, unless of course you weren't TRYING to get pregnant.

One of my very best friends has had fertility issues/trouble conceiving and was showing signs of peri- menopause, recently found out she is pregnant. It took her years to conceive her daughter who will be a high school sophomore in the fall. Needless to say, this has completely taken her and her DH by surprise. They don't object to another child, they just believed for the last 15 years that they would never be able to have another child. They are both terrified and excited at the same time. Her DD is happy and horrified, happy that she will have a new sibling but horrified to know that her parents actually do have sex....haha

Were all of your pregnancies planned? Did you have any surprise babies?

If you didn't have a surprise pregnancy, how did you announce your pregnancy?

My situation was somewhat similar. I have two sons from a previous marriage. My DH has a son from his previous marriage. As far as kids went, we were done. Or so we thought. My boys were 12 and 9 when I found out I was pregnant. Talk about being shocked. I was on BC. I took it religiously. Like clockwork everyday. I know nothing is 100%, but I was making sure that 97.3% effective was working. Then I got sick and was on antibiotics for a few weeks.
I was in my 30s and never knew that antibiotics could hinder the effectiveness of BC. Lesson learned when a couple months later I went to the doctor convinced I was dying because some funky stuff like extreme sleepiness, loss of appetite and a sense of vertigo would come out of no where.
He ran a blood panel and when he came back with the results, the look on the doctors face, I just KNEW I had some dreaded disease and was going to die. Instead he told me I wasn't going to die unless it was of shock when he tells me I am pregnant.(He had been my doctor for a few years and was just a funny guy). Needless to say, I was shocked and so relieved I wasn't dying.  ;)

Telling my DH and the boys was so nerve wrecking, my DH was stunned then happy, but the boys as I suspected were completely grossed out....haha

My first one was planned. Spur of the moment, but planned. Dd was as well. I had her in January. We didn't want another baby for a few years, so in April I went to have an IUD placed. The mandatory pregnancy test came back positive. A week later I had an ultrasound to date the pregnancy and we found out it was twins. I'm 18 weeks now, still trying to deal with the shock and adjust. Neither dh nor I are very happy, but we decided to continue the pregnancy, so here we are.

Oh wow. I am sure that is a major adjustment. I cannot imagine how shocking it was to find out you were pregnant so quickly again and then with twins.

We planned our first. But we had been trying for 11months and were only 19/20. We were supposed to meet with a specialist the next month. I had an appointment for a colposcopy because of an abnormal pap. Since my period was a day late (it wasn't late they were always all over) they wouldn't do the procedure without a neg prego test. I was pissed I didn't have time for all the nonsense. Then whike we were waiting for the results the dr had to get her sick dtr from school and would be back in 30/45min. Wtf! If they just would have done it to begin with I wouldn't have to wait. The nurse walked in with the lab paper and said "well you are pregnant" I responded "haha very funny" she said "no really you are" I called her a liar so she handed me the paper. I looked at it handed it back and said "its a mistake they circled the positive instead of negative" she sent me down for blood work and I got the call later that the blood result confirmed the urine sample! Shocked, nervous, excited all at once.
#2 was planned, #3 we weren't trying but weren't preventing but weren't having enough sex to conceive, or so we thought. Lol
#4 total suprise, doing nfp. Period was really irregular since I was still bf #3. Bestie said I was to late to wait. Took the test it turned positive before I was done peeing :/ mini panic attack. Freaking out. Really bad timing!

Nothing like going to the doctor for one thing and coming home pregnant...  ;)

I had to laugh at the test turning positive before you finished peeing. It was like that for me with my oldest son.

Mine was a surprise. My friend is pregnant with her first baby after 12 years of trying. She has type 2 diabetes, and has been working on losing weight. She started this Paleo diet and she's lost 10 lbs in a month and is now 8 weeks pregnant :) I'm so happy for her.

What was your reaction when you found out you were pregnant?

Congratulations to your friend! That is so exciting, she must be thrilled.

How far along were you with him when you tested?

I was surprised. I was also emotional and cried, then was happy :)

She is beyond thrilled. She's already asking tons of pregnancy questions. I'm also giving out info before she asks. From heartburn to when it gets here how to properly put it in a car seat (rf til AT LEAST 2) and what those funky chest straps are for (I swear no one around here knows what it's for).

I was about 10 weeks. My periods had NEVER been consistant, so it was nothing for me to miss a period and think nothing of it. By the second missed period, I knew something was up....haha
