I am laundry ready ....and the house smells AMAZING!
UPDATE:Since I have been using this awhile I thought I would make an update....I have been in the replies but to make it easier and for others just finding this and are interested I am putting it here. I ADORE this laundry detergent...I have made a few changes to improve.I have started using a food processer (thank you to all those who told me I need too!!! Def need smaller bits for it all to desolve even in cold water)...You can use a blender or break the pieces up before you throw them in....Or make the liquid version...which I don't know how. lol. Anyway, I added 1 cup of regular old Baking Soda to the recipe....So that makes it 1 bar Fels Naptha, 1 cup Washing Soda, 1 cup Borax and 1 cup Baking Soda (I was using 1/2 cup of Baking Soda in each wash with the store bought detergent...so that is a HUGE cutback and it works just as well)...no more smelly front loader or towels. I have also upped the amount used in the wash...I now use 2TBS (which is a Dollar Tree ice cream scoop...almost level)...I didn't use to use Oxy Clean and my whites were yucky...But I grabbed a tub of Sun brand one day and thought what the heck...What a huge difference and 1 scoop is barely denting the bucket and I have been dipping in it a month or more...So it is all working together VERY well. My washer is doing wonderful with it.
As for the softner, the clothes smell clean, not really a scent but there is a slight scent...which makes it wonderful...I find ds smelling his clothes before putting them on, that never happened before. As for static, well my sinus' seem to think we have dry air here...so I have static for a reason I suppose and ds' sports wear (like everything he owns) produces static. I have started using aluminum foil balls and that didn't help much on its own BUT I ran into some dryer balls in CVS $ bin one day and they have made a difference. The clothes are soft and fresh (thank you softner) and if you shake the static makers right out of the dryer all is good. There isn't a lot of difference there. Since I stopped using dryer sheets my dryer is now (just recently started dryer about 10 min faster)...I am figuring the air flow through the vent is moving better now. I also started using alittle more softner...I fill my front loaders softner drawer almost full...which is MAYBE 2 tbs. and the softner lasts a LONG time. =)
I would also like to add...I use Zout (I would DIE if they stopped making it) for stains...so I pretreat anything before it goes in (or try)...This is MAGIC in a bottle.
And to prove this stuff is fabulous...it cleaned, without a trace chocolate puke out of ds bedding, bear, pillows...everything...and I didn't pretreat all of it...TRUST me, enough was enough! lol. Then the rag he had a bloody nose with...you can barely tell and I didn't treat it because well I didn't really care...and it came out with very little stain.
So I am in LOVE! =)
Okay I made my detergent and fabric softener....pics please...Together these literally took 20 min and that was with a MESS.

Even a toddler could do it....of course they would no longer have digits....
For each bar of soap (and I have heard you can use Dove)
1 cup of each of the other (Super Washing Soda and Borax)....
and dump it in and mix...best with HANDS!
1 TBS for each large load...I have a front loader so we will see how it works out...and with a FRONTLOADER put it IN the bin with the clothes...like you would (or I do) the Washing Soda anyway!
Clothes will smell like nothing when they come out...which is a let down because this smells AMAZING! But I read you could add a few drops of essiential oil...Not sure how I feel about this in laundry powder and on my clothes....

I think next time I am shredding it smaller and I don't have a food processor sooooo...but this took literally 5 min! Should last at least 4 months and I plan on buying more soap when Walmart restocks now that I know how much it makes and keep adding it up. I must add this entire thing...minus container cost me about $10...and well you can do the math on what detergent would cost.
Next up....Softener

Being the first time there was some trial and error.... (obviously that little bottle wasn't going to work. Ugh)
2 cups (22.5 oz) Suave conditioner...any scent
3 cups Distilled White Vinegar
6 cups HOT water and a Gallon Milk jug
So here is the not do like I did version...
Put 6 cups hot water in a clean gallon jug, take the 22.5 oz bottle of conditioner...squeeze it out until it is empty...but not like rinse with water empty...put lid on and shake all your frustrations away...then add your vinegar...and shake again...No mess and all done...and you can use the lid as a measuring cup...you only need 2 TBSP (so 2 lid fulls approx)...add to laundry in the normal spot.
So since I made a mess I have proof this works...my rag is now like cashmere...and my hands and baby butt smooth...So it was a good mess I suppose. Took like 15 min should have and will take 5 min next time!

Then take a sharpie to that beast...
And Snuggle has a bear sooooo..... Morris is bring back the Morris.
He has to cuddle with "the baby" because I was busy...poor thing.

Where do you buy oils at?LOL are you ready for this...through another member and right before she said it is ooccurred to me...In the home candle area section. The ones you burn and use in diffusers. I had no idea and then I was like maybe...then she said it and she too didn't know where to get them. DUH. LOL . I am still not old on the oil unless you make liquid but if you use the softner it is for sure enough.
I was like do I need to go to the health food store or order them online..I was thinking they were special. *eyeroll*
OOO wow !!!!!!!111 I have done this before but had gotten away from the practice o it----(saop wise) have yet to have seen softener recipe but am ready to retry once again! thaks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I am having a little rouble finding washing soad in or around clinton Mo.. though
Alright ladies I had to grind the Fels down more in the blender. The front loader didn't have enough water to break it down for me. So it decided it should collect it for me in the catcher. So I made it way smaller...but it is working GREAT!
Quoting wandep:Got a question..where do you put it in the front loaders? Do you just throw it in with the clothes or put it where the spot for detergent goes? Thanks.
I put the clothes in and throw it (detergent) on them...with the softener I use the softener spot. Make sure it the detergent is shredded down more....I had to make it way smaller to get it to desolve completely. =)
