about 3 years ago i found a gently used kids clothes and gears stuff, i wish i would of knowen about this place when i was pregnant with my now 4 year old son, but no i found out after i had him. they sell clohtes for kids all the way up to teenage children, boooks, beds, pack and plays, carseats, changing tables, diaper genies all for some times reasonable prices.
well about 1 year ago i started bringing some of my stuff over to this place for in store cedit that my kids don't need or is just hogging to much space. and when i would bring it, they would look at it and give instore credit which i thought was ok at the time, cuz one it waso out of my house. But i noticed now my instore credit when i take 4 to 5 walmart bags full of clothes or big bins of clohtes or bit ticket items i don't get much instore credit even though i paid alot of money for some of these items.
Well last week i had a rummage sale, and after the sale i went through my stuff and diveded it up, to what i will try selling next year, to what i want at kids gear and what i will donate at good whill. I took 3 walmart bags of clothes that varried from newborn to 24moths, to junior girl clothes, 1 toy there. they were nice to let me bring it down just 10mins before they close. I get there show the owner and she said ok. then i waited and called them to see if she had time to go through and whatever she didn't want i would come get. well one of her workers answered and she said the owner just go there. they lost my card, and then when they found she told me out of the items i only get 15 dollars worth of instore creidt. I was like what really, i spent a lot of money on those clothes and 1 toy and i only get 15 dollars worth, i didn't complain, then i asked if i can go pick up my stuff and she said the rest went into the dumpster. I was like really whatever. Then i asked her whats the oldest year carseat they can sell, and she said 5 years, which i understand.
But why does it seem like she jips me on my stuff, even though i buy stuff from her. Kind of makes me mad.
sorry had to vent
Most places will only give 30% of what you paid. If the stuff looks brand new or IS brand new (as in still has tags), your best bet is to sell it on eBay or Craig's list. You will not recoup much stuff through consignment/rummage sales, not in this economy. And, depending on the size and whether it is in season, they may not have much room for stuff either and if you're taking in out of season clothes they don't need, they probably won't take it. It sucks, I know. I have a whole bunch of baby stuff I need to go through but I'm only going to take the best of what I have to the one place because the store credit is worth it to me, I think and rummage sales aren't going to give me much. Most of it I'll either give away on Freecycle or give to someone who can use them.
Yeah the consignment shops dont return a lot.. I know its frustrating to think of all the money you spent on an item and to see them only give you a couple dollars for it.. Its discouraging.. My mom is trying to get me to donate everything to a local free store.. She hates that the "goodwill" type stores charge money for used stuff.. However I know for a fact some of the stuff she donates to the free store ends up at Goodwill only problem is she didnt get any credit for it at all.. I said I can cut out the middle man take my stuff to goodwill and use the in store credit
Consignment stores usually don't give much back to the person who brought the stuff. If they sell something for $10, probably they are keeping at least $5- which they need to do for expenses. If you know someone else who is dealing with them, ask them about amount of store credits that they get. Since you are having bad experiences, I'd say don't take your stuff anymore.
Quoting johnny4ever:
I haven't had any luck with the local shop here either
