Right now we're using Smart Balance margerine. Not the best choice, but better than some out there. I prefer unsalted butter, though, when I buy actual butter.
I honestly don't have a brand preference, long as it tastes good. I prefer to use margarine for general things, since it's softer. But for baking I do use full on butter.
it depends on wether I am cooking or baking.
Goat butter. Made at home. I don't add salt.
I don't care which kind we are currently using Country Crock.
I usually buy unsalted Aldi butter! :)
Yanno, I always buy salted. If the recipe uses some salt, I might cut it back a little. I stopped using margarine because of the trans-fats. Real butter (store brand is fine) works for me, we just don't use a lot because it's - well, concentrated. My great-grandparents and grandparents lived well up into their 90's and even over 100. On natural food.
But here's why I buy salted:
My yds and I decided to experiment. It wasn't a class assignment, we were just curious and loved to have some fun. So I got one of those little cartons of heavy cream. We put it in a jar and took turns shaking it. It kinda got to be a contest of who could shake the longest before giving out.
It turns into butter! But it needs a little salt to taste good. Otherwise, it just doesn't even have much of a taste. We didn't use much, mind you. Just a little. But it needed it. And we had so much fun eating it on toast, knowing we MADE it! Since it's so "real", you don't use very much to get the flavor.
