Grill Skills 101 Day 7: Desserts on the Barbie!

Who says the grill is just for dinner? Get creative and grill dessert!

Fruit
You can grill pineapple, peaches, plums, watermelon, mangoes, bananas -- pretty much any fruit works! The grill's heat brings out the fruits' natural sugars and makes for a perfectly sweet ending to any meal. To grill fruit:

Pick the best produce: Find fresh fruit at your local Farmers' Market. Or take these tips to your supermarket and stock up on the sweet stuff there.

Clean your grill:
As always, start with clean grill grates and brush them with a bit of canola or light olive oil to keep fruit from sticking.

Spear 'em: Who doesn't love fruit kebabs? And they're even better grilled!

Butter 'em up: You can brush the fruit with a little melted butter or light olive oil to keep it from sticking.

Wrap 'em:
Wrap sliced, smaller fruit such as strawberries in a foil packet so they don't fall through the grates.

For more tips, check out this great article on grilling fruit.

Other sweet-from-the-grill treats:

The options are endless! Do you have any grilled dessert ideas or recipes to share? Please do!

Grilled pineapple and peaches are my favorite.  I don't do anything really special with them but I do serve them with whipped topping or vanilla ice cream!

The pineapple sounds yummy, I'll have to try it this weekend.  We have one sitting on the counter waiting to be cut.
