Are they out in droves? And what do you call them?
Over here in the East TN mountain area, they're EVERYWHERE! I can SOOO remember catching them (for a moment, then release) when I was little. But when I lived on the SC coast, I think I saw about 4 in 5 yrs. And the temps aren't much different there, because it was only 30 min. from NC.
Ya'll got any out there? Are the kids running around catching them at dusk? And what do YOU call them?
They're lightning bugs here, mostly. But when I was teaching ballet and had a little group of them (you shoulda seen it....they were "in the woods" in a Hansel and Gretel performance...I had a blackout and gave them little itty bitty flashlights for their entrance in the dark which they blinked off and on...) the name on the program was "Fireflies". Sounded more sophisticated.
HEY! There go some right now!!!!! (Out on my patio....)
