It's difficult enough to do the cooking, and who wants to wash all of the dishes?
Would you rather use nice china or something disposable?
I pull out my grandma's China for holidays! :) I agree it's a pain to wash, but it's just the four of us.
I've done it both ways. If just 4 of us, my grandma's china along with my Wedgwood. But we had over 30 at my cousin's last night, and I'm VERY glad it was Chinet! lol
Most of the time, we use disposable. The big exception is bowls. We have one dish set, that the plates get used for grilling (setting the meat on after it's been grilled...much sturdier) and coffee cups when I want hot chocolate. That's about it.
We have always used disposable. I have 3 siblings and we all have 3-4 kids each and now they're grown with kids so there have been times that I've had 50+ people at my house. The past couple of years I've tried to encourage everyone to start their own family traditions (mom and I are tired of cooking). This year 2 of my kids couldn't be home so it was just hubby, me, our youngest and her hubby and my grandson who is 1 yr old, so we ate off of REAL plates, with REAL silverware and REAL crystal goblets. It was so nice.....lol
