Okay, so this morning I got a phone call from a dentist, asking if I was still interested in the position (since he said he received my resume in February and it's now June). I said of course, so he started asking me some questions:

Why do you have just a GED? Were you too lazy to finish high school?

Are you married? What does your husband do?

You've been a sahm for 2 years, is it because you haven't been able to find a real job?

Have you ever collected unemployment? Are you still on it?

How long have you been married?

Oh, your daughter is 3 and you've been married almost 5 years. Nice to see somebody got it right.

Did your parents pay for the wedding or did his?

Oh, you live in a trailer, is that where you wanna stay for the rest of your life?

How come you didn't go to college, or was that too much to ask from somebody with just a GED.

Those are just some of the questions he asked me. I was shaking mad when I got off the phone with him. I'm still going to the interview tomorrow because I wanna show this asshole that I'm better than him. I'm a tough Brooklyn girl and I'm going to remain tough no matter what.

How would you feel if somebody asked you these questions?

Update: I ended up going to the interview. I wanted to show this "man" that I wasn't the uneducated trailer trash that he thought I was. I went in there looking very professional, and had all my stuff (an extra resume, my awards from my previous jobs, and a list of professional references) with me. The receptionist there, gave me an application to fill out, which only took about 15 mins, and then I waited. I waited for an HOUR to be seen! There was NO ONE in the waiting room, and nobody came in our out since I got there! Finally, he calls me back and he walks into the room and goes "Oh hello," in this surprised and snarky kinda tone. I honestly think he was surprised that I was black. He looked over the application that I just filled out and said "You have beautiful handwriting," then nothing. He said "Hmm, we'll a lot of people want this job, so if I feel like you're good enough to be chosen, then I might call you next week." So technically, my "interview" lasted less than 5 mins. I wasted over an hour of my life on some asshole.

How will I get them to believe me? I'm scared that I'm gonna go through all this effort and have nothing come of it.

Contact your state's labor board. As a former hiring manager, I can tell you that some of the questions he asked you were illegal and the comments he made were not only derogatory, but slanderous.

That was very un-professional.  I would of asked questions like oh I see you have your GED. Do you have college? How do you think you would fit in this postion? Tell me your last job etc. He was a total ass.

Is he the owner of the business? If so be hard to turn him into his boss.

I agree he needs to be turned into to someone.

Most places, those questions are illegal to ask. I would go to your local Dept. Of Labor and file a report.
I hope you don't have to work for this guy. Sounds like he would make your work life a living HELL. So happy for him that he is Soo superior and everything has gone so right for him in his life.

Yeah, he's the owner of the practice :( See, those were the questions that I was expecting, but his questions were just so rude and had NOTHING to do with the job. When I went in for the actual face to face interview the next day, he just read my application over and said "If you're lucky enough to be chosen for this spot, I might call you back next week." I would love to report him, but I dunno if it's a waste of my time or not.

My husband said the same thing. He told me that if he did end up calling me back, he rather me continue to stay home with dd than work with somebody that could treat a total stranger like that.

Unless you desperately need this job, I would walk away.  It's actually illegal to ask some of those questions, including "are you married?"  I've only worked for big companies, but I know they can't ask those questions.

His staff looked like unhappy clones. They were all thin (no more than 130lbs) blonde, and looked about high school age. No people of color or anything there.
