What's fair to one might not be fair to the other. 


They don't always need the same things at the same time.  I was bad for this. If one child needed something, I'd buy it for the other child too whether they needed it or not because I thought it was "fair". I had to learn that just because my daughter needs a new pair of shoes, doesn't mean my son does. Things like that.

Be flexible. No matter how great a planner you are, your kid's plans will always override yours -- ex: your child puking all over themselves as you're leaving to go get family pictures taken.
