I am a SAHM of one beautiful 11 1/2 mo DD. This past weekend I realized just how much the TV is on in our household. Not just because of me, but my husband as well. It got me to thinking of canceling cable.

Both my husband and I have struggled with weight issues in the past, and I don't want our daughter to follow suit.

Have you cancelled cable in the house for these reasons? This may sound like a funny question, but what did you do during downtime?

Have you found yourself and your family happier after canceling cable?

TIA!

Thanks everyone so much for your input!

Yesterday I made a point to turn the TV off for the majority of the day and got a whole lot done around the house. It made me realize even more just how much of my day was being wasted in front of the TV.

For now I'm just going to keep this up and take control of my TV watching. Perhaps we'll look into the Roku box that several people have mentioned. :)

That's basically how I feel too, although my DH is still smoking despite much drama about it, and he drinks, but he doesn't go out and just wants to relax in front of the TV at home.  I wish it wasn't on so much when he's home with the kids, but overall, I can't really begrudge him the TV and the monthly cable bill (even though it's forking ridiculously high!!!)

We have never cancelled our cable. My husband works hard and the only thing he does is watch tv.

What I mean by that is this. He doesn't drink, smoke, gamble, look at porn, do drugs, go on "boys night", hunt, fish or anything like that. All the man asks is that he be able to watch tv when he gets off. And thanks to DVR, he can watch his shows after the kids are in bed.

We are very busy with the kids and sports so while we do watch tv, it's not the most important thing to us.

I get so much more done when the TV is off too.  I wish we could cancel cable, but DH is way too hooked on it.  I would love to get rid of that bill every month!!

1 mom liked this
We don't even own a tv! Anything we want to watch, we can rent or find online. It makes us really deliberate about how long we sit in front of the tv. We love it!!! No regrets!
