I noticed that some of you eat Hummus.  Anyone got a recipe that I can try?  I'm wanting to start making some.

Thanks in advance.

I have never made my own hummus before.   I get mine at Costco.   Its a big container and for 5.99 I don't think I could make it cheaper.

I hope  you get some good recipes.  I may try making it.

 I found one here...http://mideastfood.about.com/od/appetizerssnacks/r/hummusbitahini.htm

Ingredients:

  • 1 16 oz can of chickpeas or garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 cup liquid from can of chickpeas
  • 3-5 tablespoons lemon juice (depending on taste)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation:

Drain chickpeas and set aside liquid from can. Combine remaining ingredients in blender or food processor. Add 1/4 cup of liquid from chickpeas. Blend for 3-5 minutes on low until thoroughly mixed and smooth.

Place in serving bowl, and create a shallow well in the center of the hummus.

Add a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) of olive oil in the well. Garnish with parsley (optional).

Serve immediately with fresh, warm or toasted pita bread, or cover and refrigerate.

Mine is on my home computer, but it's pretty similar to this one.  I use 2 cans of chickpeas, about a quarter cup of olive oil, and basically double all the other ingredients because it goes so fast in our house.  I also add lemon zest and cumin, and top it with paprika.

I know I'm going to sound dumb, but what's tahini?
