Performance Anxiety (Update)

Do any of your kids have performance anxiety? How do you help them with it?

DD is in ballet and jazz. She has a performance at a Nursing Home tomorrow. She's so nervous! And she's only 6! The event is low key and I've tried to emphasize that it's fun.

Update: So she did it! And she was sooo cute :) I'm proud of her for facing her fear!

My DS has gotten nervous here&there! But he's such a ham! LOL Our DD was so shy but in her 1st performance in K,she opened up! We thought it was the Christina show? We find getting them into activities makes them more free&relaxed!

Good luck!

I haven't dealt with that, per se, but my son has anxiety all of the time due to Asperger Syndrome and sensitivities.

Not yet. My oldest is a ham! I am guessing my second will struggle with that when she reaches that point.

1 mom liked this

Mental imaging.  I teach them about envisioning them  doing it exactly as they want to do it.   Then just do it.  It is a tactic that I learned while taking karate.  It doesn't always work but it really helps to train the mind while performing.  I discovered half the battle of performance is mental.  If you can get past the mental then you have conquered half the battle.
