what does a publisher do for you exactly?

I was just wondering, I know there are 'self publisers' and all that,

but I'm looking to put my first Kid's book together. I intend to get it copied off, then put it in a 3 ring binder.I intend to get it copywrited after this is done.

Not very glamorous I know, but many have asked to read it and I would like to get it in their hands.

maybe even Ebay a few or something while I'm looking for a publisher.

so what does a publiser do for you exactly that you can't do on your own?

Just wondering about the process.

Are you talking about a traditional publisher? If so, they do editing, design, marketing, publicity, distribution and sales. They also pay the author royalties and never ask for money.

Self-publishers, of course, don't do any of that without charging the author a fee. Of course, your % of each sale is higher, but it's an expensive proposition and it can be very difficult to sell books on your own.

Hope this helps!
