two weeks past sedations meds...still sleeping??? help
Before you read all this just know im really worried and stressed so if im rambling on or not making any sense im sorry in advance.
On April 26th my daughter went into the hospital to get her adenoids taken out. Well surgery didn't go so well and she had to be admitted into ICU. She got put on a vent, then weaned off really quick. Then finally May 7th came and she was suppose to come home. Well instead of her coming home they called me and husband up to the hospital and told us our daughter need to get a tracheostomy. We agreed with surgery, so they scheduled it for May 15th. But on May 8th they put my daughter back on the vent and put her on sedations meds to keep her calm and still until surgery. Surgery day came and it went really well. They gave her a paralytic for a week after surgery so the trach could heal up good. After taking her off the paralytic they put her on morphine and versed for another week, then put her on a wean of methadone and ativan. She didn't do good on the wean so they put her back on morphine and versed. FINALLY they did the wean again and she did really good. Her last day on the wean was June 10th. Since then she hasn't had and meds except her home meds. (KEEP IN MIND SHE HAS BEEN ON THE VENT SINCE MAY 8TH) They tried doing CPAP trials with her after she was off the meds. She didn't do good. So finally the doctor said she was probably going to come home on a vent. I told them I though she was having trouble breathing against the pressure of the machine. Well they finally decided to listen to me and take her off of CPAP and the vent and try her on a mist collar. She has been on the mist collar for 3 days now and is doing really good. Well my whole reason for writing/typing all this is because she is still ASLEEP!! What is going on? She hasn't had any meds since June 10th. I don't understand why she isn't waking up. And the doctors don't have an answer either. Has anyone else gone through this or might know why she isn't waking up. It really worries me that something is wrong.
Also my daughter is diagnosed with Alobar Holoprosencephaly and Hydrocephalus....but before the trach surgery she was the happiest baby EVER!!
ohhh man , sorry you guys are having to deal with this , i have not expierence with any of this .hugs
My mother was on a ventilator for 5 days and even she had a hard time recovering from the sedation.
Thinking of your baby, you and your family--I am not sure--Do you have an in home health nurse?
Things are going good. Yesterday was her birthday, so we had a party at the hospital. And oddly enough when someone was holding her and moving her around she would semi wake up and look around. I guess that what she needs...someone to hold her. They just started letting me hold her about a week ago. So whenever im there im always holding her.

how are things going now ?
