Hi Im new here..
My dd has Autism, SPD, OCD, and the list goes on..
Anyways she "unconciously" picks her gums.. She wakes up every morning wiht blood caked on her teeth, lips, cheeks.. I noticed today her gums are very red and thin looking.. I cant tell her not to pick because she doesnt realize she does it.. Im worried about her losing all her teeth cause she is picking all her gums away.
Any suggestions on what to do??
Welcome to the group. Maybe a mouth guard? I don't really have any experience with this though.
This. I don't have any experience either. The dentist does need to see her to make sure there is no infection, and what the actual damage maybe.
Quoting willysmama:hi and welcome to the group. Have you asked her dentist? I would think a mouth guard might help. I'm sorry i don't have any experience with this.
Right now she is confined to wheelchair and her dentist office is not wheelchair accessible. I did call him and he expressed concern and urged me to find way to stop problem but we cant get her into his office at this time...

is there someone at their office that can come out and help you bring her in? I know when my son is in his chair and their ramp is blocked(only a few times someone has actually parked their car on the ramp making it impossible to use) i can call the office and someone will be outside to help me bring him in his chair.
I wish.. He said they cant accomodate wheelchairs.. Im tempted to change dentists to one that is more handicap accessible.. I dont know how long she will be in the chair...

Welcome to the group! To be honest, I would find a new dentist that can accomodate a child in a wheelchair. My son goes to a pediatric dentist and they have plenty of room and accomodations for children in wheelchairs. Have you tried a pediatric dentist?

I'm sorry. That sucks! Hope you find a dentist that is handicapped accessible.
Get her into a pediatric dentist that takes children in wheelchairs and they would more than likely see her immediate--Do you have a Childrens Dental Dept in your Children Hospital?
We travel 2 hours to go to Childrens Dental Dept in a Childrens Hospital but it is absolutely worth it-no one around here will take my son-he is in a wheelchair-
In the mean time can you call your doctor and ask?
