IEP paperwork

So I was cleaning out my home office this weekend and ran across Joey's IEP paperwork and was wondering : Wonder how long I should keep all of this? Joey is now 9yrs old and I am going on 5 boxes of paperwork. Anything from Early start, preschool IEP's, IPP's to everyone of his dr's reports. (He had 8 of them, but now we are down to 3)

So the question is "how long do you keep all of your child's paperwork? Is it like taxes-throw it out after 7yrs. I've heard that you need to keep it until age 22 when they age out of special ed.

What's your take on it??

I keep all IEP's, behavior plans, evals, doctor reports and anything significant.  I have narrowed it down from 3 large bins to one huge binder. What i got rid of I have an electronic copy of.

I have everything in 2 accordian files. He's only 1 1/2 but I will probably keep everything close at hand for a few years then rotate the older things out into the file cabinet labeled by year. Just so if I need something, I'll have it.

1 mom liked this

I would keep it just incase something comes up at a later date and proof is needed for something. I live with Murphy so I keep everything that is given to me.
