Dentist Visits...

Need to take both of my girls to the dentist today. Elena HATES her teeth being touched/looked at/brushed! Its a battle to brush her teeth! She screams and that sometimes brings on her seizures! Err! Needless to say her teeth are brushed less than it really should be. I'm wondering when any of you ladies bring your kids to the dentist do they sedate them? The dentist did mention they may do this for her at the visits as she gets older. Not sure if they will today though...

My oldest was sedated once. Well, we tried and it had the opposite effect on her. I gave her Valium befote the appointment as instructed and she was bouncing off the walls.

My ds does not do well with the dentist. The insurance won't cover sedation; or maybe it's the dentists not wanting to sedate him. Either way, we can't get any work done on him until his cavities bother him. Crazy huh?

GD does really well. Her brother on the other hand doesn't do well at the dentist at all. He has to just suck it up for the most part. When he has to have anything more than a cleaning & check up we have to have the dentist give him extra novacaine as a regular dose doesn't work. We have talked to the dentist about sedation but she doesn't think it is necessary as he is 14 now.

my son's dentist will do it if necessary but he hasn't yet. The only time my son was sedated for dental work was when he had teeth pulled last nov

Presedation..have your dentist write the script and take the meds before the next appt.

I work in a dental clinic for kids and adults with special needs. We will give a script before the appt. If that doesn't work, we refer to a clinic that can do the deep sedation (that requires monitoring vitals).

Try without and see how she does.. if that doesn't work, then ask for the pills.

I take my daughter to a special needs dentist because she behaves the exact same way she cant even stand the feeling of the toothpaste. but the dentist i take her too is extremely patient even with all her kicking screaming and vomiting. THey are extremely good with her.

Thank you all for the replies! Elena did well today (had a couple of seizures) but needs to come back in 3 months for a follow up with them..If they still are unable to treat her teeth properly then we will be going to the hospital for an inpatient dentist appointment...Oh well probably for the better anyways! :)

DD is scared to death of the dentist. He cannot even get cleanings done. Yesterday she went to the hospital for dental surgery (she has really soft teeth) needed them all capped. They had to use the hospital and anesthesiologist. Good luck.

My son is good with the dentist...he lets the dentist check his teeth and cleaned them, but last December, she had to sedate him in order to fix his cavities and put caps..
